Frequently asked questions
Do I have to pick one of these five, or what if my situation doesn't fit?
Most of our projects start with one of these formats, usually expanding to implement the plan or additional use cases. However, we're also flexible and happy to scope something which is the right fit for you. If you're not sure which is the right option for you, please book some time to talk it over.
What's the difference between a Data Strategy Workshop and a Customer Data Strategy?
The workshop is a rapid three-hour in-person session where we cover a lot of ground to identify the top opportunities. The data strategy is a 4-week in-depth exercise where we both identify opportunities and build a detailed plan to get there. The level of detail is 10x more in the strategy than in the workshop.
What's the difference between an Audit and a Data Strategy?
An audit is tactical, focussed on fixing issues with existing infrastructure and building a short term plan to improve your tools & data. A strategy is much broader and spans AI, people and process as well as tools and data. Strategy projects are also better suited to when you want to make big changes to infrastructure, vs. an audit will build on what you have already.
Do you only implement tools, or can you build models and capabilities too?
Implementation is broader than tool setup. It covers any use case where data needs to produce a measurable result: a CDP roll-out, a multi-touch attribution model built in your warehouse, a lead-scoring or propensity model, lifecycle campaigns shipped to production or product analytics instrumentation. The unifying principle: we deliver use cases and the value attached to them, not just tool configuration.
Can I bring my own tool, or do you recommend one?
Either works. If you've already selected a tool, we implement it using proven best practice and use it to deliver the use cases that justified the purchase. If you haven't chosen yet, we can recommend one based on your goals, existing stack, skills and budget. Our partner list contains the tools we know best, but even if it's not on the list we've probably seen it before.
How long does each engagement model take?
A workshop is a three-hour on-site session, with a discovery call beforehand and a mini-roadmap presentation afterwards. An audit takes 2-4 weeks. A data strategy is usually 4 weeks. Implementations vary depending on your use cases, but we usually ship the first use cases in 4-6 weeks. A fractional marketing operations retainer is delivered in weekly sprints with a rolling notice period. We always agree scope and timeline up front.
What happens after the first engagement?
That's up to you. We always work collaboratively with clients and provide a thorough handover so you can continue making progress without us. But most clients come back for more, sometimes to deliver the roadmap we've defined, sometimes to support unrelated use cases.
How is a fractional retainer different from an implementation?
An implementation project has pre-defined goals and a fixed contract term. A fractional marketing operations retainer is much more flexible, with deliverables agreed weekly.
